چکیده

Solving the Maxwell’s equations, an electric filed enhancement is observed in monochromatically irradiated, oneand twodimensional dispersed dielectric solids with random size distribution. This enhancement is a few orders of magnitude higher than the incident field, for some arrangements. The probability density and the location of enhanced field are determined forgiven solid complex refractive index and particle size distribution. Using the two-flux model, the equation of radiative heat transfer (ERT) is solved for the local intensity. It is shown that ERT can represent a statistical average behavior of the intensity (by introducing corrections to the scattering and absorption coefficients based on dependent scattering). However, ERT is not suitable for predicting field enhancement and photon localization. * Corresponding author, [email protected]

Photon Localization and Electromagnetic Field Enhancement in Laser-irradiated, Random Porous Media

By solving Maxwell’s equations, we observed photon localization and strong electromagnetic field enhancement in laser-irradiated, one-dimensional random multilayer and twodimensional random media, with particle size around the laser wavelength. Higher refractive index contrast and degree of randomness result in stronger localization. The probability density and the location of enhanced fields a...

Investigation of pore-scale random porous media using lattice boltzmann method

The permeability and tortuosity of pore-scale two and three-dimensional random porous media were calculated using the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Effects of geometrical parameters of medium on permeability and tortuosity were investigated as well. Two major models of random porous media were reconstructed by computerized tomography method: Randomly distributed rectangular obstacles in a uni...

Multiple scattering of polarized light: comparison of Maxwell theory and radiative transfer theory.

For many research areas in biomedical optics, information about scattering of polarized light in turbid media is of increasing importance. Scattering simulations within this field are mainly performed on the basis of radiative transfer theory. In this study a polarization sensitive Monte Carlo solution of radiative transfer theory is compared to exact Maxwell solutions for all elements of the s...

Viscosity enhancement In non-Newtonian flow of dilute polymer solutions through crystallographic porous media

In many practical flow situations solutions of flexible polymers are found to exhibit a well-known non-Newtonian viscosity enhancement effect. This is likely to be due to extensional components in the flow field, which can cause flexible polymer molecules to stretch and orientate, causing an increase in the extensional viscosity. This viscosity enhancement is important in many industrial applic...

Demonstration of numerical equivalence of ensemble and spectral averaging in electromagnetic scattering by random particulate media.

The numerically exact superposition T-matrix method is used to model far-field electromagnetic scattering by two types of particulate object. Object 1 is a fixed configuration that consists of N identical spherical particles (with N=200 or 400) quasi-randomly populating a spherical volume V having a median size parameter of 50. Object 2 is a true discrete random medium (DRM) comprising the same...
